Crystal Palace v Arsenal
Barclays Premier League
Crystal Palace Park
Kick off: October 26, 2013 12:45 PM BST
Not our best performance at all, but showed great resilience to hold on to our lead, and even get a goal after seeing captain Mikel Arteta sent off. 2-0 to the Arsenal. Here are the player ratings:
- Reports Reveal Why Arsenal Missed Out On Signing Monchi As Gunners Eye Other Targets
- Reports: Arsenal Could Offer Two Players In Bid To Sign Palace’s Wan-Bissaka
- Maitland-Niles: I Want To Challenge Bellerin For Right-Back Slot
Wojciech Szczesny | 8.5: (MotM) Had very little to do in the first half, but we were really under pressure in the second half and he made a number of world class saves to preserve our lead.
Bacary Sagna | 8.0: Great performance in both attack and defence from the experienced French defender. Deserved an assist after a number of fantastic crosses.
Laurent Koscielny | 7.0: I felt our centre backs really didn’t deal with the threat the Palace offered today. Chamakh was allowed far too much freedom, but they managed the clean sheet.
Per Mertesacker | 7.0: Wasn’t winning the ball enough in the air from Palace set pieces, but made some important interceptions throughout the game.
Kieran Gibbs | 8.0: Was up and down the pitch all day, contributing well in attack and breaking his neck to get back and put in a superb defensive shift.
Mathieu Flamini | N/A: Was great in the opening few minutes, but was substituted with a groin injury after just 7 minutes. Hopefully it’s nothing serious, as we have lots of tough fixtures coming up.
Mikel Arteta | 7.5: Controlled the pace of the game well after Flamini was taken off, took his penalty superbly and I feel was very unlucky to be sent off. Also didn’t understand why Arteta was the only player left defending during our corner, he is not the fastest player and if he let Chamakh past him he wouldn’t have caught him.
Mesut Özil | 7.5: Was missing for parts of the game, and occasionally made the wrong decision, but had moments of pure class and was unlucky to not create a goal or two.
Santi Cazorla | 6.5: I felt Cazorla was really poor today by his standards, was dispossessed regularly and passes just weren’t coming off for him. Little bit of rust still from his injury lay off.
Aaron Ramsey | 7.5 : Wasn’t fantastic in the first half, slowed the play down at times and misplaced a few passes. But really showed his quality when our backs were against the wall in the second half, put in a great shift and showed good skill to assist Giroud in the last few minutes to make the end of the game far more comfortable.
Olivier Giroud | 7.0: Was really poor tonight, his hold up play was nullified by the strength and height of the Palace midfield and defence, spurned a few early chances, and his passing was all over the place. To his credit he didn’t stop trying, and was rewarded with a goal in the dying minutes.
Serge Gnabry | 7.5: The young German’s runs and movement were great, and he did well to earn the penalty that put us in front. Still very raw though, needs some more runs in the CoC.
Jack Wilshere | 7.0: Was thrown on when we were in a difficult position, and did well.
Nacho Monreal | 7.5: Shored up the defence but was a good attacking outlet on the counter. Made a couple of great mazy runs and was close to getting on the score sheet.
