Mohamed Elneny looks like he may well be announced as an Arsenal player on Monday, with Arsene Wenger confirming an arrival date for the Egyptian following our 3-1 win over Sunderland on Saturday, as reported by the Metro.
The 23-year-old’s imminent Arsenal switch is certainly no secret, but so far it’s been unclear when the deal would actually go through. Wenger insisted that the deal would be done within 24 to 48 hours after our FA Cup victory though, which means the deal should be completed by Monday.
“We hope to announce a player in the next 24 to 48 hours,” Wenger announced after the Sunderland game.
“I don’t need to tell you the name. After that we will see [about other signings].”
The Metro reports a £7.4m deal has been agreed, with the player already completing his medical ahead of the move. It seems it’s nothing more than red tape to be dealt with now, with his non-EU status no doubt causing some problems.
Hopefully the soon to be ex-FC Basel midfielder slots in quickly, as we need him to fill in for Francis Coquelin. We’ve been making do with Mathieu Flamini and Calum Chambers in recent weeks, but we’ll be facing far sterner tests and coming up against much tougher opponents over the next couple of months.

Elneny isn’t a like for like replacement for the Frenchman, but he looks more than capable of stepping in and bringing something to the side. He has endless energy reserves and gets around the pitch well, and has arguably a far better passing range than Coquelin too. The pair could even play together once Coquelin returns, which would give our attacking players a really strong base to build from.

Whether the deal is announced on Monday is another story entirely, but it seems as though Elneny’s switch to north London will be concluded by the time we play Liverpool in midweek.
