Arsenal shot-stopper David Ospina has heaped praise on newest Gunner Gabriel Paulista following his performance against Everton, as reported on Arsenal‘s official website.
Gabriel replaced Per Mertesacker in the heart of defence alongside Laurent Koscielny this past Sunday – with the giant German understandably dropped after his shocking performance against AS Monaco.
The 24-year-old had a couple of shaky moments at the start of his full Premier League debut, but overall did extremely well and was a superb replacement for the BFG.
Mertesacker may find his starting spot under threat following the emergence of Gabriel, and the World Cup winner will need to improve if he wants to keep the January signing out of the starting XI.

The Brazilian is already earning rave reviews from fans, and he appears to have impressed his new Arsenal teammates as well.
“He’s a player who is very quick and very technical,” Ospina said.
“It was a supreme game from him. He helps take us forward, Arsenal can count on some great defenders and he’s one of them.”
While Arsene Wenger has pointed out the language barrier for Gabriel, the Brazilian has a fine grasp of Spanish thanks to his time with Villarreal, which would no doubt help him establish a relationship with Ospina, Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal at the back.
Colombian goalkeeper Ospina knows what it takes to nail down a starting spot at the Emirates, as he too had to wait for his chance before usurping Wojciech Szczesny between the sticks.
He seems to think Gabriel can make it in the Gunners’ starting XI, so this could well be the start of a Gabriel/Koscielny partnership.
