Things will be a little different come transfer deadline day this summer, and we are going to be one of the teams impacted, as reported by the BBC.
Deadline day has already been shifted from 31 August to 1 September – so that it doesn’t fall on a bank holiday – and now the time has been altered as well.
Big Ben’s 23:00 chime normally signals the end of transfer deadline day, but we will no longer have deals running late into the night. The BBC claim the window will close at 17:00 this year, and all deals will have to be concluded by then.
The change has come due to Champions League regulations, which state that squads for that season’s competition have to be submitted by 23:00. This means that along with Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United, we will have six hours to register our squad along with any new players that we may or may not sign on 1 September.
It will certainly be a change from the late night shenanigans we usually witness, but hopefully the excitement won’t be diminished.
