Deadline Day is here and it seems Arsenal are set for a quiet day at the office. We may not be signing Morgan Schneiderlin today, but if this report from Daily Star is to be believed, he will join us this summer. It also appears Moussa Sissoko will not be departing Newcastle United today despite reiterating his love for the Gunners.
Firstly onto Southampton star Schneiderlin who will remain on the South coast this season but is thought to have agreed personal terms with Arsene Wenger’s side ahead of a £15m move this summer.
The Star reference French newspaper L’Equipe as the source of the news on a player that has been seeking a departure from the Saints since last summer.
Wenger is an admirer of the combative midfielder and has identified the France international as the natural successor to Mikel Arteta.
Another defensive midfielder Arsenal have been strongly linked with this summer is Newcastle’s versatile midfielder Sissoko.

The star Frenchman reiterated his desire to join Arsenal in the future and follow in the footsteps of his hero Patrick Vieira, but admitted he will not be leaving St James’ Park today.
£21.5m rated midfielder wants to play Champions League football and has naturally been strongly linked with Arsenal and Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint-Germain.
He told BeIn Sports of his desire to play for the north London outfit in the future, but declared he is happy in Newcastle:
Arsenal made me dream when I was a youngster. Patrick Vieira was my idol. I saw myself in him.
You will have to ask my agent [about a transfer]. For now, I’m a Newcastle player and I am happy at the club.
I want to play in major competitions and I want to do it with this team.
Arsenal have been long tracking several midfield targets to sure up the engine room and while Sissoko is a physical presence he is not a specialist defensive midfielder. Schneiderlin is and will be an excellent signing this summer.
Francis Coquelin has made the position his own for the time being and looks certain to sign fresh terms with the club this summer. Arteta has also put pen to paper on an extension as confirmed by his agent, but there is no doubt this team needs a Schneiderlin.
It is a shame we’ve failed to secure him this month but hopefully he will become a Gunner this summer.
With Gabriel Paulista the big name signing this January and youngster Krystian Bielik also joining the first team squad it appears business is done and Wenger won’t be staying late tonight.
