We’re rather bizarrely being linked with a move for Shakhtar Donetsk defender Darijo Srna ahead of the January transfer window, with the Croatian seen as a replacement for Mathieu Debuchy.
Debuchy has been tipped to make an Arsenal exit this January, with the Frenchman concerned by his lack of game time at the Emirates (via the Metro).
It’s hard to see us letting Debuchy go unless we bring in a replacement though, as despite Hector Bellerin performing superbly, we can’t afford to leave ourselves with only one right-back.
The Metro cites a report from Russian publication Istvestia however, who claim we’re looking to bring Srna to the Emirates this winter.
It’s a strange link and there’s hard to see there being any truth in it, as the 33-year-old is well past his best.
The report suggests that the fact he has just six months left on his contract has appealed to Arsene Wenger, who is looking to bring him in either now or next summer. Arsenal fans would more than likely be hugely disappointed if we were to see Srna arrive at the Emirates, as we’re at the point now where we need to be bringing in top quality players to improve our squad – not ageing veterans with limited time left in their careers.
