Arsenal’s fourth choice centre-back Johan Djourou has admitted that he will carefully consider any offers for his signature during the current transfer window.
Despite recently signing a new contract at Arsenal, reported to keep him at the Emirates until 2015, life as fringe player has been tough to take for the Swiss international.
The defender was urged by Switzerland coach Omar Hitzfeld at the end of last week to quit Arsenal in the pursuit of more match-time at club level in order to cement his place in the international side.
It seems Hitzfeld’s comments have hit the mark with Djourou quoted as saying by the Daily Mail to 20min.ch:
My situation at Arsenal is not easy. I’ve never played so little, and especially not in my own position.
If an interesting offer comes, I’ll look at it carefully.
Considering he has been used at right-back more that his primary position of centre-back, more match-time elsewhere would definitely serve him better in terms of the international scene.
Personally, I feel he is not needed in the Arsenal side as Alex Song can also be dispatched at centre-back if injury to other players dictates it, while Jenkinson and versatile midfielder Coquelin can cover at right-back.
