Nigerian forward Austin Amutu believes he is not far away from completing a dream move to Arsenal, and is convinced Arsene Wenger is looking to bring him to the Emirates, as read in his exclusive interview with AfricanFootball.com.
The free-scoring forward has played in a number of leagues across the globe, but is yet to break into any of Europe’s top five leagues. He insists that a deal with Arsenal was close at one point, but claims financial issues prevented the move.
The 22-year-old claims it is his dream to play for Arsenal, who have reportedly been monitoring him for years. He is convinced that a switch to north London should already have been completed, and is confident Arsene Wenger will eventually bring him to the Emirates.
“It has been my dream to play for Arsenal, they came for my while I was at Warri Wolves and I think it was money that truncated the whole thing, by now I should be playing for Arsenal or any team in England,” he revealed.
“I am happy that a coach like Wenger has interest in me for long, still keeps his eyes on me and has not lost interest.
“I believe I am not far away from my dream of playing for Arsenal. He recommended me to Angers. The French team watched me score in Toto Cup semi-finals.”

Amutu has an excellent scoring record, and has also been part of the senior setup with every team he’s been at since 2008 – despite being barely 16 at the time of his first professional contract. He’s built like a tank and has all the physical attributes to succeed in the Premier League, and has plenty of time to improve too.
Signing an unknown youngster certainly seems like Wenger’s speed, although if interested, it seems strange that the Frenchman hasn’t already made a move for Amutu.
We already have a number of young strikers on our books, but none of them have cemented their place as of yet. Amutu would have plenty of competition if he were to join Arsenal, but his record speaks for itself.

Arsenal transfer news
A January transfer seems unlikely, as he’s only just made his debut for Israeli side Hapoel Ironi Khryat Shmona. However, while the fact that Wenger has recommended him to Ligue 1 side Angers suggests the manager is not confident of his ability to turn out for Arsenal just yet, the 66-year-old may still be keeping tabs on him with a view to signing him later down the line.
