German legend Lothar Matthaus is adamant Nuernberg striker Josip Drmic will join Arsenal at the end of the season despite the player playing down the rumours.
The 21 year old has been a surprise package in the Bundesliga this season and has equalled Robert Lewandowski’s goals tally this season after he scored his 16th goal at the weekend.
Lothar Matthaus claimed on Saturday night that the striker is all set to join Arsenal with his wife already believed to be house-hunting in the capital. He said:
Drmic is linked to Arsenal. I know that his wife is already looking for a flat in London. I’d like to think that he will successfully finish the season at Nuernberg and then will be sold at a profit. Address: Arsenal, London.
The Swiss striker later insisted he is not married and no-one is looking for a flat in London, but he did admit that it was his dream to play for the Gunners. He said:
I am single right now. And there is no-one looking for a flat in London.
What the future will bring, I don’t know. Every lad dreams of joining Arsenal.
However, Matthaus responded on Monday by insisting that his sources were correct and claimed once again that the Switzerland international will join Arsenal this summer in an £8 million deal. He added:
Drmic will join Arsenal for eight million pounds. It’s a fact that there is a woman, and I know her name, looking for a flat. I was right with [Robert] Lewandowski and [Adrian] Ramos [whose transfers he predicted on Sky Deutschland]. And I will be proved right again.
His is quick and makes clever runs between defensive lines. He possesses the pace and range of movement Arsenal’s limp attack has struggled to muster all season. He would suit the brand of intricate and creative combination football the Gunners have made their calling card under Wenger’s watch.
He would add a greater array of runs for Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla and Tomas Rosicky to supply and as a player capable of playing through the middle or out wide, he wouldn’t have to replace Giroud. He isn’t a big name signing that Arsenal fans might hope for, but is the kind of hidden gem Wenger once made his reputation gambling on.

Matthaus certainly seems sure the information he has is accurate and it will be interesting to see how this one plays out. Drmic was always going to deny any possible deal, as he still needs to play for his club until the end of the season and it won’t go down too well with the fans if he announces his departure now.
