Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla spoke to the media after Arsenal’s triumph against Bayern on Tuesday night, and was full of enthusiasm for the Gunners’ chances of progressing in the Champions League (via Arsenal.com). Although he admitted that the qualification would not be easy, he also added that the team was massively proud of the performance against the German champions and that it would give them a large confidence boost going forward.
Cazorla was in fine form against Bayern, showing off his dribbling skills on more than one occasion and distributing the ball effectively. He also contributed well defensively, something he is not generally known for doing. His biggest impact however came from his lofted balls; the diminutive Spaniard was not afraid to take the aerial route when playing on the counter and several of our best chances in the first half came via a key pass from Cazorla. He was also responsible for the free kick that Giroud converted to give us the lead.
Speaking to Arsenal Player, he said, “We feel good after the win, it was important for us and it was a difficult game against a big team. We are very happy and proud of the result.
“We had to play close today because they had the ball, they have very good players and we had to defend together. After we counter-attacked and the whole team gave a great performance, which is a best thing.
“We have three more games, it was tough for us – we had to win today to try to go to the next round. The most important thing was to win and now we have to prepare for the next games, against Bayern away, Dinamo at home and Olympiacos away.”
Cazorla has picked up the pace after a slow start to the season, and has started to become more and more influential in recent games. Hopefully, this trend will continue as we head into the congested fixture list in November, and we will get to see the little wizard producing his magic on a regular basis.
