Mohamed Elneny has turned in some mixed performances since making the switch to Arsenal, but perhaps his best display in an Arsenal shirt came against Barcelona this past Wednesday night. The Egyptian spoke after the game about the result, and claimed he was happy with his performance against the La Liga giants, as reported by the Express.
The 23-year-old scored his first goal for Arsenal, and it was an absolutely fantastic first goal too. Alexis Sanchez slid the ball right into Elneny’s path, and the Arsenal new-boy curled it brilliantly into the top corner. Marc-Andre ter Stegen had absolutely no chance, and it was a really well taken goal.
He was clearly thrilled with his own performance, but the loss and Champions League ejection will no doubt sour his first Arsenal goal somewhat.
“We know it’s a big stadium and a great stadium too but I’m happy with my performance today, but not that happy about the result,” he said.
“I knew it’d be hard, but there is no ‘hard’ in football.”
Elneny has looked a really good signing so far, and offers us something a little different when compared to the rest of our midfielders. Not only does he possess excellent defensive qualities – potentially able to replace Francis Coquelin in the starting XI – he also boasts excellent attacking traits too. We’ve seen that he’s got a great shot on him too though (although his composure against Watford left a lot to be desired), and he’s a far better passer than the likes of Coquelin or Mathieu Flamini.

Arsenal transfer news
Hopefully he continues to chip in with the odd goal or two while he blends in with the squad, as we badly need goals from midfield. With a number of our forwards misfiring at the moment, we need to ensure the rest of the team are contributing too.
