Unai Emery spoke with surprising honesty after Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City, claiming Pep Guardiola’s men showed their superiority (via Arsenal.com).
Anyone looking at the squads of Arsenal and Manchester City can see a very clear divide, both in the quality of the players and the amounts of money spent to get them.
City have spent over £850 million assembling this squad while Arsenal’s was created for around a third of that sum.
“They showed their superiority today over 90 minutes,” Emery admitted after the match.
“I think they showed today, with the possession against us when our defensive position was very deep, they can score like they did in the first half.

“When we needed to attack a little more against them, opening the space in the transition, they showed they were better than us at the moment.
“The result is the difference between Manchester City and Arsenal today.”
It’s a remarkable level of honesty from Unai Emery. The gulf between the two teams is clear but few managers would admit as much. This Manchester City squad is one laden with quality and yesterday’s defeat just showed how much Arsenal need to improve in order to get back to the top of the league.
