Unai Emery has given his thoughts on the extent of the injury sustained by Shkodran Mustafi on Sunday afternoon (via Arsenal.com).
It would have been a difficult match for Arsenal had they had a full strength team but the trip to Manchester City was made tougher by the Gunners’ injury problems.
First-choice defenders Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding are out for the long-term while Sokratis Papastathopoulos is absent for the next month.
Things got even worse for the Gunners when Shkodran Mustafi was replaced in the second half, something which Unai Emery spoke about after the game.
“I think last week he is with some problems also in his head and today, when in the last 20 minutes he was also with some problems, I decided to give Mavropanos 20 minutes. I hope it is not a problem with Mustafi for this week and the next match,” Emery said after the game.
“During the week he was improving and he was okay to play today, but after the two actions in the second half, I decided to keep him and to give Mavrapanos a chance to play.”

Dinos Mavropanos came on for Mustafi in the second half and put in a decent performance but it is still a shame to see the German pick up an injury. Shkodran Mustafi didn’t put in the best performance of his career on Sunday afternoon but Arsenal have few other options at the back right now.
