Unai Emery has provided an update on the potential transfers of Denis Suarez and Ever Banega to Arsenal (via Arsenal.com).
Arsenal’s squad is in need of an update but it’s clear that that can only come from loan moves in the coming weeks.
The club is seemingly short of funds and this week, a number of reports have claimed that the Gunners can only sign players on loan in this January window, something which Unai Emery confirmed.
“We cannot sign permanently. We can only loan players. Only loan players,” Emery said in his pre-match press conference before being asked about Denis Suarez, one of the players linked with a loan move to the Emirates.
“I don’t know his situation now. We can only sign players later on. I know the club is working on possibilities of which players can help us with big performances like we need now.
“I can say to you that the club is working, the club is telling me the different situations in each moment. At the moment, we haven’t had any news today about that.”

Emery was also asked about Ever Banega, a player he managed at Sevilla and is a rumoured target for the Gunners.
“I know this player and he’s a very good player,” Emery went on.
“I cannot tell you more.”
It’s a frustrating situation for Arsenal fans and it must be for Unai Emery too. It’s unbelievable that the Gunners can only afford to loan players during this transfer window considering the size and revenue of the club. Arsenal won’t be able to secure any signings before Saturday’s match with West Ham but for more information on how to watch the game, head to our live stream page.
