Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas got himself stupidly sent-off against West Bromwich Albion on Monday, which ended his hopes of breaking Thierry Henry’s assist record this season, the Metro reports.
The Spaniard currently stands at 18 assists and with Henry’s 10-year-record of 20 assists in one Premier League season still remaining, one has to wonder if it will ever be beaten.
Fabregas recorded 15 assists before January and, at that point, it seemed inevitable that he would overtake ‘The King’; but his annual dip in form during the second part of the season became evident once again.
Arsenal transfer rumours
During his final years at Arsenal and his time at Barcelona, Fabregas failed to maintain his level throughout the campaign and it has cost him the chance of etching his name into the record books.
Nevertheless, this does highlight just how difficult it is to record such a high number of assists and for a striker to achieve the feat proves our complete Henry was.
