Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has labelled a potential swap deal between Raheem Sterling and Theo Walcott as the “best deal ever” for the Reds, Sky Sports report.
We have been heavily linked with the Liverpool star since he admitted that links to Arsenal “were flattering” in the now infamous interview with BBC Sport.
According to the Daily Star, a swap deal involving our own contract rebel Walcott might be on the cards and Merson believes that Liverpool should bite Arsenal’s hand off should the opportunity arise.
Arsenal transfer news
“If Theo Walcott goes to Liverpool, Raheem Sterling goes to Arsenal and Liverpool get some money, I think Liverpool have had the best deal ever,” Merson was quoted as saying.
“If he goes to Arsenal, will he play? I don’t think he’s an Arsenal player. I don’t think he gets his head up or moves the ball quick enough.”
Contrary to Merson’s belief, we reckons Sterling would likely start on our right and is good enough to play on a weekly basis for Arsenal. His performance as a loan striker at the Emirates Stadium was impressive and when picking up the ball and driving at the back four he’s frightening at times.

Plus, he’s only 20-years-old, and widely regarded as perhaps the best young player on the planet, as his Golden Boy award for 2014 suggests.
Whether the reports have any truth in of course is another matter – and if they amount to nothing, we have a more than capable pacey wide option in Walcott.
