Former Arsenal star John Hartson believes Arsene Wenger could easily spend upwards of £150m this summer, with the Frenchman looking to end his Arsenal career with a bang, according to the Daily Star.
Wenger has been widely criticised for his unwillingness to spend in the past, with many furious that the manager hasn’t brought in the required quality to win the league. Season after season it’s seemed like we’ve been just a player or two short of greatness, and yet season after season Wenger has failed to address the issues.
Hartson believes that this summer will be different though, and after seeing Wenger spend £30m on Granit he tipped the manager to continue his spending spree.
“I do think Arsene Wenger will spend an awful lot of money this summer.
“He’ll spend big and with him having probably just another year there, he’ll think ‘right, I’m going to go out with a big bang’.

“I reckon he’ll think ‘I’m going to spend all this money that’s been given to me’.
“I think he’ll actually spend up to £150m this summer, I really, really do.”
While £150m is possibly wishful thinking, it does seem like Wenger may be looking to do a fair bit of business. We badly need another striker and perhaps a wide man, and with Xhaka already at the club it wouldn’t be too far fetched if you said we’ll spend around the £100m mark.
A large chunk of that surely has to go on a striker, and Hartson knows exactly the type of player he wants to see arrive. He has implored Wenger to sign a Robert Lewandowski type of player, and he’ll be joined by a huge number of Arsenal fans.
“I’d like them to go and get a Lewandowski, that type of player,” he continued.
“Someone like how [Thierry] Henry was. Someone who is mobile, someone who is a real presence, someone who can head it, score left foot, right foot and fire in volleys. I think the crowd would love that too.
“Alexis Sanchez has flattered to deceive at times this season even if he did have a wonderful first year. Now another big marquee signing is needed.
“I know they’ve got in Ozil and Sanchez and paid big money for them but I’d love a Lewandowski.”
Lewandowski himself almost certainly won’t be available, with the player unlikely to want to leave one of the best clubs in the world any time soon, and Bayern Munich unlikely to want to sell one of the top strikers in the world.

It would be fantastic if Wenger were to follow up the signing of Xhaka with a top quality striker though, and with the money available to him he should be able to at least get someone better than Olivier Giroud through the door.
