It was always a source of great disappointment that Carlos Vela didn’t reach his potential with us, as he looked at one point like becoming a truly top quality player. He has been fantastic since his switch to La Liga, but could now be set for a £21m move back to the Premier League with West Ham, according to the Wharf.
The Mexican striker has been one of the standout performers for Real Sociedad in recent seasons, and has been tipped to make a move. The report suggests he is being monitored by both Atletico Madrid and VfL Wolfsburg, but is most likely to join long term admirers West Ham.
There were talks at one point of the 26-year-old rejoining Arsenal (via the Daily Mail), with the fans clamouring for his return. The move has long been knocked on the head, and instead we could be facing him this season.
We crashed to a disappointing defeat against West Ham on the opening day, and saw our season get off to a disastrous start. Now we could be seeing a former Gunner donning their kit, and helping them in their push for Premier League success.

It would be great to see Vela succeed, but it would obviously be best if it wasn’t with a league rival or at our expense. These are nothing more than rumours at the moment though, so a move may never materialise.
