Arsene Wenger has confirmed that former Gunner Freddie Ljungberg is going to make his way back to the club and will be taking charge of the club’s U-15 side (via Arsenal.com).
The pacy winger scored 72 goals for the club in a grand total of 328 appearances in a career that spanned 9 years at Arsenal from 1998 to 2007. Ljungberg was known for his looks as much as for his rampaging runs down the wing, and Arsenal fans have voted him into their list of the best Arsenal players ever, where he holds an impressive 11th position.
Freddie himself tweeted that he would be back at Arsenal, and the rumour has now been confirmed by Arsene Wenger.
“Yes, because he wants to make his [coaching] license,” Wenger said. “They [aspiring coaches] have to take care of a youth team and we are happy to give him a chance to do his license. [He will be involved with] the under-15s.”

Freddie joins Thierry Henry (via the Metro) in coming back to the club to do coaching badges, pointing to the fact that Arsenal’s and probably Wenger’s connections to former players is pretty strong. While it does not hold any significance to the immediate future, former players doing their coaching badges at a club is something we only ever hear about at the very best clubs – like Barcelona and Real Madrid. Seeing that happen at Arsenal is a good sign, because it is an indicator that Arsenal are moving into the top bracket of clubs worldwide. Arsenal fans would love to have an Invincible as manager one day, and with both Henry and Ljungberg back at the club, it doesn’t seem impossible.
