Harry Redknapp believes we should stop dreaming about bringing the likes of Pep Guardiola to the Premier League, and suggests we should be looking closer to home for the next Arsenal manager, as reported by the Evening Standard.
The former Tottenham boss claims we should be looking at ex-Arsenal stars to replace Arsene Wenger, and highlights Steve Bould and Tony Adams as potential candidates.
Wenger is coming up on 20 years as Arsenal manager, but won’t be here forever. We certainly need to be looking to the future, but are Bould or Adams in that future?
Redknapp certainly seems to think so.
“There are more and more foreign owners in the League who are too afraid to take a chance on an English manager,” he said.
“They want sexy foreign names. They love the mystique of it.

“Don’t get me wrong: I love Guardiola — he’s an excellent manager. But if you give him the Sunderland or Watford job, he isn’t suddenly going to make them finish in the top six.
“Why shouldn’t Arsenal give Steve Bould a go? Or Tony Adams?”
Giving English managers a chance obviously isn’t a hugely far fetched idea, but equally we can’t give them a chance purely because they’re English. We need to bring in a quality replacement for Arsene Wenger, and Bould and Adams really aren’t at the level we need.
Bould is yet to get a chance to show his managerial credentials, but seems far from ready to step up and take the mantle. Conversely, Adams has had plenty of opportunities to try his hand at management, but he has unfortunately failed miserably at the likes of Wycombe Wanderers, Portsmouth, and Azerbaijani side Gabala.
Adams is a legend at Arsenal, but it’s hard to see him being anything but a failure if he were to return to the club. All he would do is tarnish his legend status at the club, and it seems madness to even suggest a return.

Arsenal transfer news
Redknapp has come out with some bizarre notions in the past, but this is one of his crazier ones. It will be a real blow when Arsene Wenger eventually steps down, but it will be made far worse if we appoint the wrong successor.
