Harry Redknapp claims we are still capable of winning the league, despite our set back against West Ham on the opening day of the season, as reported by The Telegraph.
The former Spurs boss claims we must keep faith in Petr Cech after his disastrous start and stressed that we need another striker to ease the burden on Olivier Giroud.
Giroud is a solid striker and has steadily improved since his arrival at the club. He notched 14 goals last season – second in the squad only to Alexis Sanchez – despite missing a large chunk of the campaign through injury.
Redknapp believes our current squad is close to being able to challenge for the Premier League, but claims we need option up front.
“Arsenal are very close with the squad they have now – and I still think that Petr Cech will make a massive difference – but you cannot just go with Olivier Giroud as the only striker. It is impossible,” said Redknapp.
“I have managed Theo Walcott. He is a fantastic player who can play in different positions but he is not a pure striker. It is the same with Alexis Sanchez. Danny Welbeck is the closest.

“I think he could be another front man and is capable of going on a big scoring run but they need him fit. Giroud’s a good player, better than a lot of people think, but you need options in those attacking positions if you are going to win the league.
“The problem, of course, is finding that player. Like Manchester United, Arsenal will be looking at a small group of top, top strikers but I do still expect all of last season’s top four to make at least one more major signing.”
The out of work manager praised Giroud, and rightfully so. The 28-year-old doesn’t get the credit he deserves, and has done superbly during his time at the Emirates. Redknapp is right when he says we need reinforcements however, as going through the season with only one striker is farcical – regardless of his quality.

We could certainly improve on Giroud too, and should do so if the opportunity arises.
