Arsenal have progressed to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup with an excellent performance against Middlesbrough and are now one of five Premier League sides left in the competition. Hopefully Preston North End can reduce that to four when they host Manchester United this evening.
The sixth-round draw takes place at 7.35pm tonight at Deepdale just before the aforementioned clash and the Gunners will hope to avoid either United or Liverpool – but most importantly we want to earn a home tie.
Blackburn Rovers, Reading and Liverpool all won on Saturday while Bradford City continued their impressive Cup run by ousting Sunderland. Both Birmingham based outfits Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion progressed, the duo represent more enticing top tier options than the two from the North West.
Here is the list of our potential quarterfinal opponents:
Preston North End/Manchester United
- [Player ratings] Arsenal 1-2 Wolves – Auba flops and pressure on Arteta
- [Team news] Arsenal line up vs Wolves – Arteta’s dilemma with three out
- [Player ratings] Molde 0-3 Arsenal – Balogun scores as Gunners cruise
All eyes will be on North End pulling something out of the locker tonight. LVG’s men, while horribly inconsistent, continue to be our boogie team despite their incessant crapness. Liverpool are a team on the way up and are another side we would like to avoid.
But as long as we are drawn at Emirates I’ll be happy with whoever we play. Better to face United or the Reds on home soil than at the neutral Wembley Stadium. We did it last season so let’s do it again.
Who would you like to face Gooners?
