The Spain international’s future has been a source of intense speculation in recent days with reports stating that Barca have already held talks with Arsenal over a £30 million.
Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are also among the Premier League clubs touted as possible destinations for the play-maker and Hunter believes the Blues are currently leading the race for the midfielder.
When asked where Fabregas is likely to end up, he told Talk Sport:
Barcelona are off the record confirming that there’s an agreement on price with Chelsea. I have to admit I do not know what Fabregas would think of working for Jose Mourinho though.
There were times when Mourinho was with [Real] Madrid that Fabregas was – although articulate – very critical of Mourinho’s behaviour. That can change, huge wages can make you work for different people.
The 27 year old, who moved back to Camp Nou from Arsenal in 2011, scored eight goals and made 13 assists in 36 La Liga games this season. The Gunners are expected to be front-runners for his signature, owing to the buyback clause which they inserted into his contract when he left the Emirates.

Few reports have also stated that Wenger has snubbed the chance to re-sign Fabregas, which seems funny to me as the Frenchman is unluckily to ever pass on the chance to sign a player he discovered and nurtured. The thought of Chelsea signing him by making an incredible offer is also baseless, because as part of the agreement, Arsenal can sign him for a specified fee and that is regardless of the amount any other club brings to the table.
He is a cult hero at Arsenal and among fans despite jumping ship to Barcelona, as everyone associated with the club understands his desire to return home and play under his hero Pep Guardiola. His love for the club is still clearly intact, and he’s stated in the past that he would not play for another English club. If he does make a move to Chelsea then all the love will turn into hatred and the Spaniard would not allow that to happen.
