Jamie Sanders over at news website Metro claims Wenger’s No.1 January transfer target is Olympique Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi following the 22-year-olds stunning start to the Ligue 1 season.
The young Belgium international has already netted 11 goals along with five assists, following 17 starts for the struggling Mediterranean based club (via Metro), which has led to speculation that he will be the subject of several bids once the winter transfer window opens in just under three weeks’ time.
Marseille will of course be reluctant to sell, and have slapped a £35 million price tag on his head according to the Daily Mirror, in an attempt to ward off the ever increasing number of clubs that are circling around their star player.
When asked about the possibility of new signings during his press conference on Thursday at Colney, Wenger said: “We are open minded.”
“We are not the only ones who can decide about the speed of the transfers.
“We have to adapt to the availabilities and the speed of negotiations and the willingness of clubs to sell.

This to us, this is Wenger’s way of referring to the fact Francis Coquelin is out injured, but even if the French defensive midfielder was fit, the club still needs cover for that position.
As for a new striker there is no doubt that the fans would love to see a quality forward signed, but with Olivier Giroud hitting form at the right time and a healthy Theo Walcott available for now at least, Wenger may think twice about competing with other top sides for a player who on paper looks like a good fit for the Premier League.
Have a look at the video below and see if you think Arsenal should try and sign Batshuayi, or if wait until the summer. Either way, he looks a promising talent.
