A surprise package at Arsenal in the last few weeks has been Francis Coquelin, and the Frenchman’s fantastic form has earned him a new contract, according to the Mirror.
The 23-year-old looked to be coming to the end of his time at the Emirates, and was loaned out to Charlton Athletic in November after seemingly being deemed surplus to requirements.
Injuries to key players at the club saw him immediately recalled, and he has excelled in the defensive midfield role ever since.
The young star has added energy, tenacity, and a degree of impetus that has long been missing in our midfield. As great as Mikel Arteta has been, he no longer has the legs or the energy to dominate the midfield. With the ball there are few better at dictating the tempo than the Spaniard, but without the ball he leaves much to be desired.

Coquelin’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, but his recent performances look to have convinced Arsene Wenger to offer his compatriot a new deal.
