This weekend we are back in North London for the Emirates Cup, with our pre-season starting to get a little more serious. We haven’t won our own competition for quite a few years, and it would be great to keep the trophy at the club this season.
The Emirates Cup is the last real chance for players to impress the manager before the season starts, and we get to see the team up against some truly stiff competition.
Here are five key points to look out for at the Emirates Cup:
5) Who plays in midfield
- Arsenal must outmanoeuvre Galatasaray to win race for £2m ‘bargain’ transfer
- Arsenal reportedly set to sign free agent after impressive trial
- Arsenal have ‘concrete interest’ in signing Bayern Munich II star
The centre of the pitch is our most saturated area, with the likes of Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, and Mesut Özil all fighting for a place alongside Francis Coquelin.
Arsene Wenger is likely to put a strong team out, so the lineups we see this weekend may well resemble the manager’s preferred XI for the season.
The Emirates cup will be the final test before things get serious, and the players will be looking to impress the manager.
