Former Arsenal striker Charlie Nicholas has revealed that forward Alexis Sanchez is his signing of the season in the Premier League, with the Chilean narrowly edging out former Gunner Cesc Fabregas. The two players, formerly teammates at Barcelona, both made a switch to London this summer, with Sanchez coming to the Emirates and Fabregas going to rivals Chelsea.
Both have been exceptional so far but Nicholas believes that Sanchez beats Fabregas because at the moment the Chilean is carrying a team who are really struggling for form and fluency. Chelsea as a whole have more in form players at present and as such Sanchez’s impact for the Gunners becomes even more vital.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Nicholas said:
Every time I see him I genuinely think he’s going to do something.
This little fella is like Suarez, although Suarez has slightly more all-round ability but is a bit more unpredictable. He has that desire and instinct in his head.
When other players are struggling around him they must look at him and think ‘this guy is relentless’. There’s no sulking like other players, just absolute desire.
Don't Miss:
- Arsenal star ‘ready to leave’ and head overseas for ‘a new challenge’
- Arsenal will have to meet new £30million asking price for 25-goal striker

He just edges Cesc, mainly because of the goals but also because he’s playing for a team who are lacking in form and fluency at the moment.
With Sanchez playing as well as he is after just four months and with Mesut Ozil to come back, I’m backing Arsenal to finish in the top three ahead of Manchester United and Liverpool.
Sanchez has found the net 14 times this season, and has single handedly won us many games. Even against Southampton it was the Chilean who finally broke the deadlock in the 89th minute and secured the three points in front of a roaring Emirates crowd. Needless to say, any successes this season will depend largely on Sanchez’s contributions.
Nicholas also brings up an interesting point, we are starting to find our stride and key players like Ozil are yet to return. This shows that Arsenal still have a few tricks left and provided we spend well over the January transfer window, then a top three finish is very much on the cards for the Gunners.
