After the farce that is the Monaco game it would be criminal to point at a single player for the result. The whole team looked like a bunch of clowns doing their best to outperform their predecessors in the art of bottling.
However, some players deserve to be dropped and the manager has to be ruthless here. Actually, if I were Wenger, I would drop all the XI and play 11 mannequins, atleast they don’t throw themself forward or turn their backs.
Olivier Giroud
I would be surprised if Giroud starts against Everton. I am not saying that he will be dropped as a punishment but more of a break to regain his confidence. He went into the game in the best form of his Arsenal career but he produced a performance that will always be remembered for the wrong reasons. He was visibly drained of his confidence and his substitution saved him from further embarrassment.
Arsene Wenger has previously talked about Giroud’s mental strength and his ability to bounce back so sooner he regains his belief the better it is for his side and himself.
There’s also the possibility of Wenger backing Giroud by playing him on Sunday. Whatever he does let’s hope his one game anomaly doesn’t turn into a chronic one.

David Ospina
It’s becoming clearer Ospina isn’t good enough to be our first choice goalkeeper. While I give him the benefit of doubt for the first goal, he’s got to do better for the third. His distribution was poor and decision making awful. He was actually at fault for the equaliser at Spurs and at Palace he was lucky on more than one occasion.
We can’t be buy anyone now so until the end we have to play our best goalkeeper. Szczesny isn’t world class but he doesn’t lose you games. #BringbackSzcz.
Kieran Gibbs
While I understand Arsene Wenger’s decision to start Gibbs ahead of Monreal, I am confused why Gibbs thinks he’s a left winger. He is so limited on the ball for him to attack and so laid back to defend.
What’s the point of having him in your side when he neither contributes to attack nor holds himself to defend? He probably got too carried away by his game against Middlesbrough. Regardless, Monreal is a better defender and has a quality final ball to threaten our opposition plus he does not aimlessly run and dribble the ball out of play.
Per Mertesacker
I like the BFG, but I find it extremely hard to defend him. He desperately needs a break. He has suffered all season long and Monaco was his nadir. The man needs to be more responsible and lead by example instead of turning away from goal.
Gabriel needs to be played at some point, why not against Everton?
There will be some changes for the match against the Toffees and it shouldn’t be a surprise if a couple of senior players are dropped. It has to serve as a warning for the rest.
