It’s well known that Arsenal need to strengthen up front this summer. We have lacked depth in the position with Giroud being our only player who really has played up front this year.
Bendtner deputised against Hull in the first half of the season, and Sanogo made a handful of appearances in the position, while Podolski, arguably the most clinical finisher we currently have at our disposal has featured exclusively on the left wing this season. Giroud is, in my opinion, a very good player. He isn’t in the calibre of the likes of Ian Wright and Thierry Henry who we have been blessed with up front in the Wenger years, but he is good in his position.
He is very strong, an excellent header of the ball and provides a lot of assists for the team. This season he has racked up 22 goals and 8 assists which has no doubt helped the Gunners achieve a champions league place and get their hands on a much needed trophy. Unfortunately, the burden of being our only major striker has taken its toll on Giroud, which no doubt contributed to him failing to carry his impressive form of the start of the season, which saw him go six consecutive games with a goal.
Like I said, we do need to strengthen, and I believe that we should be looking to proven Premier League players to add to our strike force, as it means they are more likely to hit the ground running and not have to take time to adapt> Here are four strikers that Wenger should consider bringing to Arsenal this summer.
One – Wilfred Bony
Bony is possibly the break out star of this years Premier League. He only arrived last summer, signing for Swansea City for a fee of £12,000,000 from Dutch side Vitesse. Although he took time to get going in the league, since Christmas he has hit form and never looked back, scoring 16 goals in the Premier League.

The Ivorian is the complete package, he has immense strength and has shown his strong aerial ability several times this year, most notably against Man United as Swansea knocked them out of the FA cup. He is also decent at running beyond the defence and scoring one-on-ones.
Two – Loic Remy
Loic Remy is somebody who has been chased by Arsenal since January 2013, before his move to Queens Park Rangers and later to a Newcastle United on loan. Loic Remy is blessed with blistering pace which can cause havoc to any defence providing he gets the right pass. He is also a clinical finisher as well, scoring 14 goals and assisting with 3 in the Premier League.
He has been the star player at the Tyneside club since the sale of Yohan Cabaye in January. He would add more pace to Arsenal and provide some much needed penetration to the Gunners attack, which has sometimes gone flat, especially without the likes of Walcott and Ramsey. He is also believed to have a release clause around £6,000,000.
Three – Javier Hernandez
Javier Hernandez is an enigma. Despite being a proven goalscorer and always a reliable option for Manchester United, he has only been used sparingly these past two seasons. This can be put down to two main factors, the arrival of Robin van Persie, and the fact that Welbeck is English.
The Mexican is a far superior to the young Englishman, and if it wasn’t for the Man United tradition of bringing through young English talent he would get more game time. He has made eight starts this season and 21 substitute appearances, scoring four and assisting three. His style of play is pretty simple, give him the ball anywhere in the box and he will score. He doesn’t bring much else, but he is extremely clinical.
Four – Romelu Lukaku
This may be a far fetched shot, but reports have been circulating that Chelsea are willing to let Lukaku leave. If it is indeed the case, we must make him our top priority. Lukaku has been nothing short of a outstanding in the past two seasons, which has seen him score against the Gunners twice in that time.
He has scored 15 goals and collected 6 assists in the Premier League this season. Roberto Martinez has taken him to another level during his time at Goodison Park. That fact, as well as his natural strength, pace and work rate, Arsenal should make him their priority if he becomes available.
So, what do you Gooners think? I think we should sign two strikers this summer. Due to similarities in their ability, I think that we should either sign one of Bony or Lukaku, then one of either Remy or Hernandez. Post your thoughts below – have I missed any other potential options?
