Francis Coquelin has surprised everyone since his return from loan last month, and Aaron Ramsey is the latest Arsenal player to heap praise on the French midfielder, as reported by ESPN.
The 23-year-old was outshone only by Man of the Match winner Santi Cazorla on Sunday, with the defensive midfielder putting in an unbelievable performance against Manchester City.
His Gunners career had looked all but over when he was loaned out to Championship side Charlton Athletic, but people are already questioning how we have managed without him this season.
“He has done well. He’s at that age now where he understands the game a lot more and he has done really well in the last few weeks,” Ramsey said.
“He wins it back, keeps it simple and just keeps things ticking over. Hopefully he can build on his performances that he has been showing of late and he has got every chance of turning into a top defensive midfielder.”
We have been lacking a tough tackling defensive midfielder who can read the game for a long time now, but it’s starting to look more and more like we had one in our ranks the whole time. With just a handful of games played so far it is impossible to tell whether Coquelin can be what we need in the long run, but he is certainly an excellent option to have available.
