Villarreal boss Marcelino has given the biggest hint yet that Gabriel Paulista is on his way to Arsenal this January, but insists that he would still like to keep the player if possible, as reported by Eurosport.
The Brazilian has looked close to joining the club for a while now, but as of yet a deal has not been done. Marcelino believes there is only going to be one outcome however, and is certain Paulista will be an Arsenal man in the coming days.
“He’s a player who’s still wanted in the dressing room and remains very important to us. At the moment, he’s still part of the squad because we don’t know what will happen,” he said.
“Everything points towards the negotiations going in one direction, but until then he’s still ours.”
An issue over a work permit seems to be the only remaining obstacle, with his lack of international caps a stumbling block.
He looks to be a fantastic potential signing, and could become our first choice for years to come. He has been lighting up La Liga since his arrival, and has been almost ever present this season for Villarreal. The 24-year-old looks to have all the attributes required to succeed in the Premier League, and could be a huge success at Arsenal.
