Ilkay Gundogan – the latest central midfielder linked to Arsenal – with the club clearly desperate to bring someone in that position at some point this summer…
Today, German publication Bild (cited here in the Mirror) claimed that along with Bayern Munich and Manchester United, we’re considering a move for the Borussia Dortmund ace.
The 24-year-old was once rated as one of Europe’s most talented midfielders – culminating in his Champions League final appearance in 2013…
Injuries though have stunted his progression into a genuine superstar, and his entire 2013/14 season was ruled out as a result – as was most of his last term.
He’s fit now though, and could be a terrific option if we can get him for the right price. Really, we need a proper anchorman in midfield, whereas Gundogan has more offensive tendencies.

He has been used as a deep-lying midfielder, but more in the mould of Mikel Arteta than Francis Coquelin – who prides himself on his interceptions, tackles and simple passes.
While we’d take Gundogan with open arms, a priority simply must be a midfield destroyer over midfield creator. If both were to arrive – our midfield would be complete.
