Chelsea recently announced a vast leap in profits to nearly £20m, the latest step in the London club’s plans to become a European super club.
And according to reports in Spain, Mourinho will spent that £20m on improving his squad with the acquisition of Reus.
The Dortmund forward has a £19.75m release clause in his contract that becomes active next summer. The German is hot property with all of Europe’s top clubs clamouring for his services.
According to Spanish sports paper Marca, the 25-year-old is Mourinho’s top target for next summer. But Marca indicate Real Madrid will provide strong competition with a ‘right to buy’ agreement reportedly agreed.
Barcelona and Bayern Munich are other frontrunners in the race for Reus with Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal also interested.

The young German has impressed repeatedly for his club Borussia Dortmund, and it was only a matter of time before someone snapped him up. If Chelsea manage to land him, then they will be an even more frightening proposition next season.
This story also highlights how Chelsea are willing to reinvest all profits to make the club more competitive. This is something Arsenal can certainly learn from, and was one of the major issues during this year’s AGM.
Let’s hope that Real Madrid make the buy. A front line consisting of Costa, Hazard and Reus supplied by Oscar and Fabregas arrayed against us is the stuff of nightmares.
