After what has been a bit of a tug-of-war match between Arsenal and Manchester City, with Tottenham and Newcastle displaying interest too, it seems that the Lille’s Ivorian striker Gervinho is destined for Arsenal:
“Arsene Wenger is poised to complete the first part of his Arsenal summer refit by landing Ivory Coast striker Gervinho in the next 48 hours.
The Gunners have agreed a £10.6million deal with French champions Lille for the 24-year-old forward, who will arrive on a four-year contract.” – the mirror
Bacary Sagna has spoken out of Gervinho, “He’s really an exceptional player who had a major part in Lille winning the title this season. Technically he’s so good. So he’d be welcome at Arsenal.”
Apparently Arsenal tabled a bid for this lad back in the 2006/7 when he was playing in Belgium, so they’ve been keeping an eye on him for awhile. With Gervinho scoring 15 goals for Lille last season, leading them to the French league and cup double, this is exciting times for Arsenal fans.
Where do you think he will slot in? Rumour has it that Wenger will be looking to push Walcott to a central striking role this season (as he did with Henry), perhaps the new Ivorian will be looking at playing a wide roll and occasionally slotting in as a central striker when Van Persie sustains his usual array of injuries (lets face it..its gonna happen).
