The match against Sunderland this weekend saw us pick up all three points but was also marred by what appeared to be a serious injury to Gibbs. The England international sustained the problem during the closing stages of the game and after the game the manager said that the player was still being analysed.
Knowing our record with injuries, I had expected the usual two to three weeks on the sidelines. However, according to the latest reports, Arsenal are hopeful Kieran Gibbs will be available to face Burnley on Saturday.
The injury is still being assessed by the Gunners medical team, but the problem is not expected to keep Gibbs out for a prolonged period. The news will come as a major boost to manager Arsene Wenger, who already has quite a defensive shortage.
If Gibbs had actually been injured, our back line would have been interesting to say the least. Bellerin, Mertesacker, Chambers and Monreal isn’t exactly wat you expect from a team who are expected to challenge for the title. But, thankfully, Gibbs is back and Wenger will hopefully strengthen the squad in January. Fingers crossed until then.
