Former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has insisted that his current side Chelsea are the “top club” in England (via The Standard).
For many Gunners fans, Olivier Giroud still feels a little bit like an Arsenal player despite his exit from the club 9 months ago.
The Frenchman’s January departure was swift as he headed across London to Chelsea, a club which he clearly enjoys representing.
“For me, Chelsea is the top club in England, the one that has won the most titles over the last 10 years,” Giroud told L’Equipe.
“I am where I wanted to be. So why leave?
“There was contact [from Marseille] last year, but nothing really concrete this summer. It did not go as far as was claimed.
- Arsenal must outmanoeuvre Galatasaray to win race for £2m ‘bargain’ transfer
- Arsenal reportedly set to sign free agent after impressive trial
- Arsenal have ‘concrete interest’ in signing Bayern Munich II star
“I had just arrived at Chelsea, it was not the time to pack my bags again three months later.”
Olivier Giroud is still a popular player amongst Arsenal fans despite his departure from the club in January. It was a shame to see him leaving the club but if he didn’t then the Gunners wouldn’t have signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Both parties are better off now.
