Olivier Giroud has become the latest player to praise the arrival of Mesut Ozil following the German’s inspirational performance in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Napoli, a result that many football betting writers had considered unlikely.
Ozil once again proved his importance to the team scoring one and setting up Giroud for the other as the Gunners extended their unbeaten run to 10 games with an impressive win over Rafa Benitez’s in-form side.
The playmaker arrived at the Emirates Stadium from Real Madrid on the final day of the transfer window in a club record £42.5million deal, which signalled the end of a frustrating summer for the Arsenal fans, some of which had called for the veteran manager’s head after he had previously failed to spend a single penny.
The acquisition of the German international has certainly improved the mood amongst the faithful though and with them currently sitting at the top of the standings, they are now being mentioned as genuine title contenders in the live football commentary.

One of the reasons for the optimism is undoubtedly Giroud’s improved form, with his goal on Tuesday night taking him on to six for the season and he now finally appears to be ready to fill the void left by Robin van Persie.
The Frenchman has now hailed his new team-mate’s performance against Napoli and believes he was the perfect man to help Arsenal end their eight year wait for a major trophy.
“Mesut especially tonight was unbelievable,” he said. “It is really simple to find him on the pitch and I have a really good understanding with him.”
“He provided the assist for my goal. He knows the right thing at the right moment. This is his first goal, but he has provided a lot. I think it was his fifth or sixth assist since he joined. He was the man we needed to really improve our side.”
