Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has given the club a boost by revealing he is close to signing a new contact with the club.
The France international is in the last 18 months of his current deal but is expected to commit his future to the club shortly.
Giroud has been in superb form recently with late goals against West Brom, Bournemouth and Preston in the FA Cup and says he wants to continue at Arsenal.
“We’re on the verge of reaching an agreement,” he told Telefoot. “It’s a sign of trust. I want to continue the adventure in this Arsenal family. I feel good here.”
Giroud endured a difficult start to the season, forced onto the bench as Alexis Sanchez thrived in a central role but he says he was prepared to wait for his chance.
“When I spoke to the coach, he always told me that I was an important player,” Giroud added.

“I know what I am capable of. I just needed to be patient, to work in training and wait for my hour to come.”
The highlight of Giroud’s season has arguably been his sensational scorpion kick in the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace and he admits it was a “crazy” strike.
“It’s something you’re not lucky enough to do every day,” he added.
“I wanted to shoot on goal but, yes, there was a bit of luck involved. The trajectory was perfect.
“The goal was all the better because it went in off the crossbar. But you realise that it was something crazy.”
Giroud’s decision to commit his future is great news for the club particularly after a season where he as proved his huge value to the club with some vital goals.
