Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has insisted that he is confident in his ability to lead the gunners attack, vowing that any new signings will face a fight to take his place in the side.
Giroud has been in excellent touch all summer scoring eight goals in preseason. He continued his good form into the start of the season by scoring in three successive games for the Gunners so far this season, with the latest strike coming in a 3-1 success at Fulham on Saturday.
The Gunners have been linked with moves for many high profile strikers this summer including the likes of Luis Suarez, Wayne Rooney and Karim Benzema but the Frenchman has welcomed speculation surrounding new faces, while declaring that he feels of confident of maintaining his fine recent form.
According to Arsenal official website, he said :
I am in good [form], I feel really confident in the games. If I do the job on the pitch [there are] no more questions.
If there is a new striker that comes in it is a good thing for the squad. I try to give my best for the team to win and nothing more.

We were really disappointed and we wanted to correct it and dictate the game [at Fulham]. We did it and we are really pleased with that.
When it doesn’t work [on the pitch] people want to talk about new signings. We really wanted to show the squad is together, we wanted to give an answer on the pitch and we did well. We played really well and scored three goals again. We are really confident now.
Giroud’s good start to the season was hardly a surprise considering the fact that it was his first season in England last year. He was also the side’s top-scorer during the preseason tour and it’s looking like he will better his goal tally of 17 goals from last season.
The form of Giroud will be a welcome sign for Wenger, given that he is the only tried and tested striker we have at the moment. But his form should not act a s smoke screen for Wenger as an excuse for not signing a forward. Giroud is a good striker but it is evident that he is not one of those strikers who can win a match single handedly, what Arsenal need now is a ruthless hit man who can directly replace Van Persie both in his ruthlessness and positioning.
Arsenal need an upgrade and a striker to compete, push and complement Giroud. All the top Premier League teams have more than one quality strikers which we don’t have at the moment, so if we want to compete at the highest level we need good strikers on the bench as well.
Arsene Wenger will have to start acting quickly to bring in players to improve his current squad, however he may find it difficult because as we near transfer deadline the prices of the players escalate enormously. This might prompt some last gasp panic buying from the Arsenal, which probably won’t please fans especially if we overpay and the player doesn’t get of the blocks quickly. Even if we manage some deals now it’s inexcusable for Arsenal to leave it so late.
