Olivier Giroud has said that he will stay at Arsenal and honour his two-year contract despite rumours linking the Frenchman with a move away (via The Metro).
It seems that Olivier Giroud got a taste of what’s to come during the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday. The Frenchman was benched with Arsene Wenger preferring to start new signing Alexandre Lacazette up front.
Giroud did eventually get on the pitch but it seemed like a sign of things to come. The move for Lacazette will only limit Giroud’s involvement in the team but it seems that he will be content with that.
“I’m an Arsenal player,” Giroud told French outlet SFR Sport. “I have a contract of two years still.”
Giroud has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League rivals Everton but it seems that manager Arsene Wenger still wants the Frenchman to stay.
“It has been a frustrating season for him because he has not played a lot,” Wenger said of the player. “And when he has played well, he has not always played the next match.”

“He has won us a lot of points when he has come on because he has scored lots of times. He has qualities that our team need.”
It wasn’t the best performance of his Arsenal career on Sunday but Olivier Giroud has shown his quality on enough occasions in the last few years. Alexandre Lacazette will be the first-choice striker for the Gunners but his French teammate Giroud offers something different. If he is content to be used as a plan-b then Arsenal should absolutely keep Giroud.
