Every day this season, Wenger seems to be vindicated. In the summer while everyone was calling for a striker like Higuain, Wenger bought a young inexperienced striker called Sanogo and kept the faith with Giroud. So far Giroud has taken us to the top of the summit or thereabouts and Sanogo can only get better.
After coming back from injury, Sanogo has proved to be a real revelation with Wenger calling him the new Anelka. Against Liverpool, he proved to be a handful for Skrtel and Toure. Against Bayern, he was superb before the red card and performed admirably after.
There is only one problem with Sanogo and that’s his lack of goals or goal scoring instinct around the box. No doubt he will begin to score goals in time, although he looks ridiculously clumsy as he shapes up to shoot a ball, but with Arsenal’s situation, we need those goals now. His physical hold up play will really help up us in the Premier League and FA cup and he can help take the load off Giroud’s shoulders but he requires the midfielders to step up when he is playing.
Giroud after taking a well deserved break and recharging his batteries came back with a bang with two goals against Sunderland. He has picked up where he left off. His movement off the ball is extremely good, pulling defenders out of position, and has a way of reading a defender’s back passes and taking advantage. He also holds the ball up well and brings midfielders in to the game. Giroud is one of Arsenal’s top scorers and seems to be raring to go thanks in part to been relegated to the bench. He remains a key part of Arsenal’s squad.
As we get to March, I believe the crunch games against Manchester City, Chelsea and Bayern should go to Giroud and games against Stoke as well as the FA cup should go to Sanogo. We do not want Giroud to get fatigued before the end of the season. It’s a pity Bendtner cannot get a look in especially with the good form he showed in the first half of the season. I guess Arsenal are starting to look healthier upfront and while we might not have a goal poacher, we definitely have a chance with what we have.
