I am convinced Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott are the strikers we can rely on to win the Premier League. They both bring totally different attributes to the table. Giroud is big and strong, able to out muscle the strongest defenders in the League. He is blessed with a fantastic finishing ability that has improved every year and he also boasts extremely good technique for such a huge striker.
It is no wonder that he supplied the subtle final pass to marvelous team goals in the past finished off by Tomas Rosicky and Jack Wilshere. His off the ball movement around the box is among the best in the business, able to draw defenders away and create space for other players to exploit. His only obvious flaw is the lack of speed but the leaner and fitter Giroud Arsenal fans have seen recently is able to get across the pitch with more ease.
Theo Walcott, on the other hand, is a player blessed with phenomenal pace. Earlier on in his career, his lack of control meant that he was unable to use that pace to his advantage but that has now improved. His greatest asset is his ability to time his runs behind the defenders to perfection. His finishing has always been quite good but it is at the tail end of last season that Arsenal fans began to see his confidence in front of goal.
I have my reservations on the strikers that Arsenal have been linked with including Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema. Higuain is a fantastic player but seems to choke when it matters the most. He missed a crucial penalty for Napoli last season as well as for Argentina in the Copa America. He’s hardly set the world alight and is extremely over priced with a £64m release clause (via Sky Sports) My concern with Benzema is also his ability to be consistent at the highest level. We’ve seen him thrive at times at Real Madrid, but with Cristiano Ronaldo and co providing you with tap ins, who wouldn’t score a few goals? I doubt whether any of these players would greatly improve our squad.
Do you agree Gooners?
