Ramsey recently switched to the No.8, the shirt vacated by Mikel Arteta at the end of the season. This left the Welshman’s No.16 free, although it was only free for a day. Xhaka has snapped it up, with Arsenal revealing the Swiss international’s new number on Twitter:

Nobody expected Xhaka to take 16 before the announcement was made, with rumours flying around that he’d be getting is favoured No.34. It’s currently occupied by Francis Coquelin, but many suspected the Frenchman would drop down to a lower number over the summer. Clearly that’s not the case though, and at the moment it looks like Coquelin is sticking with what he’s got.
There are already high hopes for Xhaka, with the signing met with real positivity from the fans. Not only does the 23-year-old look to be a phenomenal player, but a big money signing this early is a real signal of intent.

Hopefully Xhaka is the first of many, and we see another few new faces through the door. With signings expected we could also see a few more shirt number changes, with several numbers made available already.
