Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a sensational £85m bid for Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann this summer, with the La Liga outfit identifying Gunners striker Alexis Sanchez as the perfect replacement.
Arsene Wenger is believed to have joined the race with Manchester United to sign the 25-year-old Frenchman who has a £85m buyout clause, with Daily Mail suggesting the Gunners could fork out as much as £250,000 per week on the France international.
While the fee is enormous for Arsenal’s standard, it’s a reasonable amount for a player who has only been bettered by the elite Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi during 2016.
The plot thickens when reports from the Sun suggest Diego Simone wants Alexis Sanchez this summer and could be willing to part with £35m to secure the Chilean’s services should Griezmann leave the Vicente Calderón.
According to the report, Atletico could afford to pay Sanchez £220,000 per week, a substantial increase on his current wages plus remain become the fulcrum of a side consistently challenging for major honours.
Griezmann’s future is certainly set to be one of the hottest topics over the next six months, and if Arsenal are genuinely interested in smashing their transfer record on the forward it will go a long way in securing Mesut Ozil’s future at the club and will soften the blow should Sanchez decide not to renew his current deal this summer.

It’s early days, but this is something that could well conceivably happen if Arsenal do sanction the bid and attempt to oust Man Utd. A transfer merry-go-round may well be on the cards…However you get the feeling it may well be agents stirring the pot to see if Griezmann’s camp can break Paul Pogba’s transfer world record this summer.
