Pep Guardiola has praised Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, claiming the man on loan at AFC Bournemouth has “special quality” on the ball. Guardiola remembered Wilshere’s performance against his FC Barcelona side as a true testament of his quality (via The Telegraph).
Jack Wilshere continues to play weekly for AFC Bournemouth and he’s making a big impression on a number of other managers. Pep Guardiola is the latest boss to praise Wilshere’s performances as well as his ability as a player. The Manchester City man was speaking ahead of his side’s match against The Cherries later this evening.
“I remember in Barcelona and that year we played Arsenal,” Guardiola said. “He left a massive impression when he came. A high, high level. I know the problem with Jack Wilshere was just the injuries.
“He’s lucky to play regularly for one season and he is going to be back to being one of the best midfield players in England by far. He’s quality, he’s smart and has the quality on the ball.
“He has a special quality with the ball, dribbling as a holding midfielder to attack central defenders – it’s not easy to do that.”
Wilshere has played 21 times in the Premier League this season, just four appearances short of his highest tally since 2011. The 25-year-old has become a vital part of this Bournemouth side in their battle to remain in the top flight.

“He’s a little bit like Dembele at Tottenham,” Guardiola argued. “They have the quality to pass, pass, pass and then immediately destroy the defensive structures. I’m so happy he’s back and he’s playing regularly. Hopefully, on Monday he can play.”
“He would still be playing for Arsenal if he was fit [before]. I think it was so important for him to be able to play week after week.”
Wilshere has impressed immensely for AFC Bournemouth this season and the recent gap in Arsenal’s midfield made many Gunners fans question the decision to let the Englishman leave. Hopefully, the midfielder will return to the Emirates next season and continue this run in the Arsenal team.
