Arsenal host Manchester City on Sunday with only faint hopes of challenging for the Premier League title, although Matthew Glazier of Bettingpro.com nostalgically remember what happened ten years ago.
On 22 February 2003, a title-chasing Arsenal team travelled to Maine Road and promptly dished out a 5-1 thrashing to a Manchester City side that included Robbie Fowler and Nicolas Anelka in attack.
Anelka was to add a late consolation after the Gunners had run riot, with five players scoring for Arsene Wenger’s team who were in a tussle with Manchester United for the title which would eventually see the Red Devils claim the honours.

The Arsenal team that day was:
Lauren, Keown, Campbell, van Bronckhorst
Silva, Pires, Vieira, Wiltord
It was Dennis Bergkamp who opened the scoring in the fifth minute, with Bobby Pires on target in the 12th minute and Arsenal were home and dry by the 15th minute when Thierry Henry scored past the despairing Carlo Nash to seal the three points.
The Manchester City fans were in disbelief moments later when Sol Campbell scored to make it 4-0, with the visiting supporters having grown accustomed to this dream team banging in the goals on their travels.
The game calmed down after that point and Paddy Vieira’s 53rd minute strike was the last for Arsenal with Nicolas Anelka grabbing that consolation, although many City supporters had left Maine Road by that stage.
Things have certainly changed since then, with City having been financially elevated to a championship-winning side and Arsenal having gone several seasons without silverware, although they did enjoy a 1-1 draw at the Etihad earlier this season and will hope they can repeat last season’s 1-0 win against the same opponents on Sunday.
