It all went pear shaped this time last year when the Gunners lost to Sunderland in the FA Cup and were heavily beaten by AC Milan in the Champions League.
The same testing period has approached the Gunners and presented itself with a full on fixture list which will essentially make or break the campaign.
Luckily for Wenger his side is starting to find some consistent form, they haven’t lost in five matches and despite the fitness concerns of Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny, Arsenal’s squad is very strong (touch wood).
But the North London outfit have to juggle a visit from Blackburn this weekend in the FA Cup, three vital League fixtures against Villa, the Spuds and Everton sandwiched between two tough fixtures against Bayern Munich as well as a trip to Wales to visit Swansea City who are in the running for a European spot.
Here’s the full list of fixtures for the next four and a half weeks:
- Ex-Gunner shuts down striker transfer talk: ‘I do not see Arsenal targeting him’
- Arsenal face no real competition to sign free transfer Premier League midfielder
- Arsenal boosted as 23-goal striker reveals he’d ‘love to play’ in the Premier League
Feb 16 Arsenal v Blackburn Rovers Emirates Stadium FA Cup (Round 5)
Feb 19 Arsenal v Bayern Munich Emirates Stadium Champions League (Round of 16)
Feb 23 Arsenal v Aston Villa Emirates Stadium Premier League
Mar 3 Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal White Hart Lane Premier League
Mar 9 Arsenal v Everton Emirates Stadium Premier League
Mar 13 Bayern Munich v Arsenal Allianz Arena Champions League (Round of 16)
Mar 16 Swansea City v Arsenal Liberty Stadium Premier League
So as you can tell this is perhaps the most vital period of fixtures this season with Arsene Wenger itching to bring some sort of silverware home for the first time in eight years.
The Bayern Munich matches will certainly test Arsenal’s resolve as they are in incredibly hot form domestically, but the three fixtures against the Spuds, Toffees and the Swans will determine if the Gunners are Top Four worthy.
After mid-march the biggest threat in the League will be Manchester United in the fourth to last fixture, but hopefully they would’ve won the league by then a rotate the squad accordingly…
