Michael Owen is unquestionably one of the worst pundits around, and consistently spouts absolute nonsense on live television. He also seems to have some kind of vendetta against Arsenal – and Mesut Özil in particular – consistently targeting the German playmaker for criticism.
He was at it again during our clash with Manchester City this past Monday evening, lashing out at Özil simply because he was credited with an assist for Theo Walcott’s opening goal.
I just lobbed on Sportlobster: https://t.co/oqtR5tAZB6 That’s where stats are bollocks. Ozil assist? Koscielny had the biggest influence …

He then went on to suggest that Özil’s through ball for Olivier Giroud’s goal shortly after barely qualified as an assist.
I just lobbed on Sportlobster: https://t.co/0KWfU38cIE That just about qualifies as one!!!

The former Manchester United & Real Madrid striker’s comments were met with fierce criticism from Arsenal and football fans alike, and understandably so.
Özil is playing arguably the best football of his career, and if you love the game you can’t not love watching Özil. Owen’s vendetta against Arsenal sees the delusional commentator continually lambaste the German international though, which merely confirms what everyone already knew about his non-existent punditry skills.

Walcott may have had plenty to do following the No.10’s pass, but that shouldn’t take away from Özil. Just because he didn’t lay it on a plate for the England international a few yards from goal, it doesn’t mean it’s not an assist.
The majority of Owen’s goals were tap ins from practically on the goal line, so does that mean we should rule them all out?

We’re all praying for the day Owen gives up punditry and moves on, but unfortunately that doesn’t look like happening any time soon. BT Sport seems to thrive on having controversial and globally hated pundits, so Michael Owen is ideally suited.
