Hector Bellerin is potentially suffering from an ankle injury at present and may undergo surgery this summer to fix the problem which goes some way to explaining the problems he is enduring.
The Gunners right-back may well be playing through pain at present with Arsene Wenger freezing out Mathieu Debuchy and Carl Jenkinson and no other viable alternatives. This goes a long way in explaining the poor form of the defender who has looked the shadow of a player he was at the beginning of this season.
His dip in form coincided with the ankle injury after a strong tackle by Danny Rose during the north London derby draw with Tottenham in November that sidelined him for more than a month, before issues with his ankle persisted after his comeback in January.
Bellerin became a lightning rod of frustration from Arsenal fans in the wake of the 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace. The right-back endured a torrid first half and has become a victim of both poor game and man management from Wenger and his coaching staff. Arsenal’s defence is a shambles.
Several of ITK fans including Arseblog &
@AFCamden have speculated Bellerin is in fact carrying an injury, with the latter recently tweeting this:
Bellerin still struggling with ankle problem from earlier in the season. Likely to undergo surgery in the summer to correct issue. #afc

It goes some way to explain the loss of pace and erratic form shown from the former Barcelona youth star since ‘recovering’ from his recent ankle troubles.
Wenger remains reluctant to recall Debuchy or Jenkinson who both recently played for the reserves and will hope to nurse Bellerin through to this summer.
