West Ham’s first choice goalkeeper Robert Green committed a nasty foul on Roman Bednar resulting in a straight red card, and the Hammers were without a ‘keeper on the bench meaning Lansbury took up the gloves and kept a personal clean sheet with the score at 2-1.
Surprisingly this isn’t the first time Lansbury has played in goal, he had a stint between the sticks in England Under-21s’ 2-0 friendly defeat to Germany back in 2010 when their first choice keeper Lee Steele was sent off, and the Arsenal midfielder offered his services and performed admirably with a string of fine saves.
Could he be Szczesny’s backup for the Gunners? Sell off Almunia and Fabianksi and bring back Lansbury! I’m joking… But congratulations to the London born midfielder for having the guts to don the gloves!
